Consensys acknowledged a bug in the MetaMask extension that causes 'abnormally high activity' on some computers. This information appeared in the media.

Users noticed that MetaMask constantly writes hundreds of gigabytes of data daily to SSDs, which can significantly shorten their lifespan. Developers will soon release a patch that will reduce the volume and frequency of state writes and optimize data handling.

The problem was noticed in May. Some users reported writing 100–500 GB per day, even though the wallet was not in use at that time.

Consensys is already exploring ways to reduce the size of each state and optimize the frequency of disk access to alleviate the load on storage devices.
