Golden Finance reports that ConsenSys has confirmed a serious bug in its MetaMask browser extension, which leads to users' solid-state drives (SSD) being written to at an abnormally high frequency, reaching up to 500GB per day and accumulating up to 25TB over three months, severely shortening the SSD's lifespan. This issue primarily affects users of Chromium-based browsers like Chrome and Edge, and occurs even when the wallet is not in use, causing continuous background writing. Some users have reported that this bug has already consumed about 50% of their SSD's lifespan. ConsenSys has stated that they are aware of this issue and are actively investigating it, with a fix "coming soon" that will reduce the frequency of data writes and the number of data retrievals.
