According to Techub News, as reported by Cointelegraph, Consensys has confirmed that it will 'soon' release a fix for its MetaMask browser extension, after users reported that the extension writes hundreds of GB of data to the solid-state drive daily, which could shorten its lifespan.

One of the latest reports comes from a user named ripper31337, who stated in a GitHub bug report on June 24 that after a fresh installation of the MetaMask extension on Chromium-based browsers (such as Chrome, Edge, and Opera), they found it continuously writing data to the solid-state drive (SSD) in the background without user interaction. According to ripper31337, the 'abnormal disk writes' occur at a rate of 5 MB per second, totaling 500 GB per day and 25 TB over three months.
