I just read “Who owns the most Bitcoin in 2025? The rich list revealed” on Cointelegraph, and here’s my take 👇
The biggest Bitcoin holders today aren’t individuals—but major crypto exchanges. Binance’s primary cold wallet holds roughly 248,600 BTC (~1.25% of supply), followed by Robinhood at 140,600 BTC, and Bitfinex around 130,000 BTC .
On the corporate front, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) is the clear leader, with nearly 597,325 BTC, spending over $42 billion—about 92.5% of its balance sheet in BTC .
Sovereign players are also scaling up:
The US government holds about 207,189 BTC, making it the largest known nation‑state holder .
Other countries like China, the UK, Bhutan, Ukraine, and El Salvador are also significant holders—Bhutan alone mined ~13,000 BTC via hydropower .
Two sleeper wallets from 2011 recently moved 20,000 BTC (~$2.1 billion), showing old coins are reactivating—even though they didn’t hit exchanges .
Meanwhile, growing numbers of mid-tier wallets suggest Bitcoin ownership is slowly broadening beyond the ultra-wealthy .
---
TL;DR (in my voice)
I’m seeing a Bitcoin ecosystem that's still dominated by exchanges, a few giant corporate treasuries, and state actors—but there are new signs of wider distribution and unexpected movements from long-dormant wallets.
