The President of the United States, Donald Trump, filed a lawsuit on Friday for at least 10 billion dollars against The Wall Street Journal and its owners, including Rupert Murdoch, following the publication of an article claiming that Trump signed a birthday greeting addressed to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003, with a sexually suggestive drawing and a reference to shared secrets.
"We just filed a POWERFUL lawsuit against everyone involved in the publication of the 'fake,' malicious, defamatory, and FAKE NEWS 'article' in the useless 'pamphlet' that is The Wall Street Journal," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. He also warned: "I hope Rupert and his 'friends' are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case."
Trump filed the lawsuit in a federal court in Miami and named Murdoch, Dow Jones, News Corp, its CEO Robert Thomson, and two journalists from the newspaper as defendants. The legal document claims that the publication caused Trump "overwhelming" financial and reputational damage.
"We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit," responded a spokesperson for Dow.
