BREAKING: Donald Trump Signs Historic Cryptocurrency Bill
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed the cryptocurrency bill, the GENIUS Act, live on television.
The GENIUS Act, one of the legislative packages passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday, focuses on stablecoins and has been signed into law by President Trump. This event marks the first comprehensive legislation in the United States related to the cryptocurrency market.
Economist and author of the newsletter Crypto is Macro Now, Noelle Acheson, described this law as the most significant development in cryptocurrency this year:
"This is the biggest advancement in cryptocurrency this year. It is significant enough to be mentioned alongside the SEC's changes. In a country like the United States, which has the largest financial market in the world, this is the first time in history that a law focused on cryptocurrency has been enacted. Even symbolically, this is very exciting."
Acheson also noted that this law, unlike regulations from the executive branch, has permanence:
"Because this is a law, future administrations will not be able to easily repeal its provisions. Furthermore, by that time, stablecoins will be so embedded in the global financial system that opposing them will become futile."
Meanwhile, the House has also passed the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at restructuring the cryptocurrency market more comprehensively. This second bill will now be presented to the Senate for approval.
