According to a White House briefing note, the new classification is called "List G" and will apply to employees involved in policy-making. From now on, when the president who appointed them leaves office, these employees should also leave their positions. This decree could strip a large number of the 2.3 million federal employees of their protection against dismissal, essentially making them dismissible at any time. Earlier this year, Trump suggested this adjustment, stating that the federal government must ultimately "operate like a business."
