"Bitcoin Jesus" Roger Ver sues Spain to prevent extradition to the US

Roger Ver, also known as "Bitcoin Jesus," one of the earliest adopters of cryptocurrency, has filed a lawsuit against Spain to prevent his extradition to the US. He alleges that Spain has violated his legal protections after the country ruled that he could be extradited to face tax evasion charges in the US. #Spain

Tax evasion allegations and legal arguments

According to #Bloomberg Law, Roger Ver has sued the European Court of Human Rights, arguing that the extradition order would be "an illegal restriction of his freedom." Ver's legal team also argues that the Spanish authorities failed to assess the "uncertainty and insecurity" regarding the taxation of cryptocurrency in the US during the period the allegations were made.

Roger Ver is facing prison time after the US federal authorities accused him of evading taxes on $50 million, along with charges of mail fraud and filing false tax returns. He has launched a campaign to overturn these allegations.

Ver, who was an early investor in leading crypto companies such as Kraken and #Ripple , renounced his US citizenship in 2014 and became a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis. Last year, he was arrested in Spain under a warrant from US authorities, accused of selling Bitcoin in 2017 but failing to report the profits to the IRS. Ver hopes his campaign will attract the attention of President Trump, who has recently pardoned some prominent figures in the crypto industry.
