#BinanceHODLerERA The vote on three crypto bills in the U.S. House of Representatives was postponed on Tuesday after 13 Republicans withdrew their support, demanding an explicit ban on the CBDC. The U.S. House was scheduled to vote on Tuesday on three major texts for the crypto ecosystem. However, the operation was abruptly halted by a revolt from Republican lawmakers, opposed to the idea of a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Donald Trump personally intervened to unblock the situation.
Anti-CBDC revolt among Republicans
On Tuesday, July 16, House Republicans dramatically suspended the vote on three crypto laws. Thirteen party members demanded the addition of an explicit ban on any future CBDC issued by the Fed. One of the figures in this uprising, Marjorie Taylor Greene, justified her opposition by the lack of sufficient guarantees against a "surveillance currency."
At the heart of the discord: the GENIUS Act. This text, intended to regulate the Fed's actions on digital currency, does not go far enough for some lawmakers. They want a clear clause prohibiting any CBDC, without ambiguity. This blockage has jeopardized the "Crypto Week" agenda that Republicans hope to carry out before the Congressional summer break.
Trump intervenes, vote rescheduled
Faced with the deadlock, Donald Trump pulled out his phone. The former president, in the midst of a campaign, contacted the opponents to convince them. As a result: 11 of the 12 dissenters ultimately agreed to support the texts. The vote has therefore been rescheduled for Wednesday morning, July 17.
Trump, who has made opposition to the CBDC a campaign theme, thus confirms his political weight in the party. His ability to sway votes remains intact, even on technical subjects like crypto regulation.
