Eleanor Terrett provided an update from Capitol Hill, explaining that the Republican Senate staff hopes that the House will pass something soon to ensure that cryptocurrency legislation can move forward.
"We just hope that the House can do something, anything, so that cryptocurrency legislation can move to the next stage," said a Senate staff member to Terrett.
However, these last-minute changes could cause further delays. Some lawmakers are cautious about pushing measures against CBDCs too aggressively. These modifications could harm the already fragile ties with Democrats, particularly with those who support the overall goals of the bill, such as clarifying the roles of the SEC and the CFTC in regulating digital assets.
Some members believe that including anti-CBDC language in the bill is crucial to maintaining Republican support. However, there is a growing fear that these additions will alienate Democrats, who are important for the bill's passage.
