U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Russia, stating he will enforce "very severe" trade penalties if the war in Ukraine isn’t resolved within 50 days.
"If there's no deal in 50 days, we’ll impose secondary tariffs — 100% — and that’s final," Trump declared.
The White House clarified that Trump was referring to 100% tariffs on Russian goods and sanctions targeting countries that continue buying Russian oil.
During a meeting at the White House, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that Ukraine will receive a major shipment of military equipment under a new arms agreement with the U.S. Trump emphasized that this package — valued in the billions — would include systems like the Patriot missile defense, though the U.S. would not be covering the cost.
Trump also expressed confidence that a resolution could be reached with Russia, saying he believes President Vladimir Putin “understands what a fair deal looks like.”
According to the U.S. Trade Representative, American exports to Russia dropped to \$BTC 526.1 million in 2024, a 12.3% decline from 2023. Imports from Russia also fell significantly, totaling \$BTC 3 billion — down 34.2% from the previous year.
