🥶 Developers want to freeze BTC in old wallets
At the Quantum Bitcoin summit, the following solution was proposed: freeze vulnerable BTC, including Satoshi coins, to prevent a catastrophe.
25% of all viruses (including ~1 million Satoshi BTC) store outdated cryptography, they can be hacked by quantum computers.
The gist of the proposal (BIP by Jameson Lopp, Casa):
✔️ Ban transfers to old addresses (ECDSA/Schnorr).
✔️ After 5 years — complete blocking of withdrawals from such addresses.
✔️ Optionally use a mechanism for restoring frozen coins through proof of ownership of the seed phrase (without the risk of inflation).
