Reddit now requires users in the UK to verify their age by uploading a selfie ID or government ID through a third-party service to access mature content, due to the UK Online Safety Act which comes into full effect on July 25.
Ofcom praised the move as essential to protect minors, although privacy advocates warn about data risks and tech companies are concerned it could drive UK users to VPNs.
