The Hive economy by July 2025 is based on two main native tokens:
HIVE: The primary liquid token and governance token. It is used for staking (Hive Power) to gain voting rights and rewards, as well as for paying network resources (although transaction fees are nearly zero). HIVE is a volatile asset whose value is determined by the market.
Hive Backed Dollars (HBD): A decentralized stablecoin of Hive, pegged to the US dollar (1 HBD ≈ 1 USD). HBD offers high returns on savings (currently around 20% per annum), making it attractive for holding capital within the ecosystem. It is used for more stable payments and settlements. This dual-token system provides both growth and stability for the various needs of users and developers.
