👉Brazil's PGR requests more than 40 years in prison for Bolsonaro for attempted coup
The Attorney General's Office (PGR) of Brazil requested, this Monday, the conviction of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for allegedly leading an attempt at a coup d'état to maintain power after the electoral defeat in 2022, against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
According to the charge, signed by Attorney General Paulo Gonet, Jair Bolsonaro should be convicted of five crimes, with the total maximum sentences for the five offenses exceeding 43 years in prison.
"Bolsonaro consciously created an environment conducive to violence and the coup," states the prosecutor, further emphasizing that the former president used "state structures and resources to foster radicalization and democratic rupture."
The PGR also requests the conviction of seven other members considered part of the "core group" of the coup conspiracy, including former ministers and high-ranking military officials trusted by Bolsonaro.
