Binance CEO's Sudden Visit to Vietnam, Promoting Dialogue on Cryptocurrency Regulation
On the morning of July 15, Binance CEO Richard Teng made a sudden visit to Ho Chi Minh City to attend an event regarding Vietnam's cryptocurrency regulatory framework. Teng is the second Binance executive to visit Vietnam after CZ's visit in 2022.
This trip follows his participation in a seminar on digital assets and global regulation in Taiwan. Richard Teng succeeded CZ as the new CEO of Binance in November 2023 and currently leads the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.
Teng has over 30 years of experience in finance and regulation, having held key positions at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Singapore Exchange (SGX), and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He was named one of CoinDesk's “Most Influential People of 2024.”
Binance has invested in several local cryptocurrency projects in Vietnam. As early as 2022, Binance invested in Coin98 (now NinetyEight), which focuses on multi-chain wallet products. Binance also provided strategic investment after SkyMavis faced a $600 million hacking attack, helping it restore liquidity and compensate users.
Teng's visit comes at a time when the Vietnamese cryptocurrency market is receiving significant attention from international companies and policymakers.
