AI DRIVES WHITE-COLLAR JOB CUTS
JOB OPENINGS DOWN 31% SINCE MARCH
The UK job market is under pressure as AI reshapes entire sectors. McKinsey reports a 31% drop in online job postings over the last 3 months compared to 2022, with white-collar roles in tech and finance hit hardest—declining 38%, nearly double other sectors.
AI is replacing entry-level tasks, slashing opportunities for programmers, analysts, and consultants. Permanent job placements in June recorded their steepest drop in nearly two years, while job-seeker numbers surged.
Analysts warn that the rapid rollout of AI, combined with tax hikes and a sluggish economy, is forcing firms to freeze hiring or automate aggressively. Meanwhile, low-tech sectors like real estate and education remain relatively stable.
