Science says Within each human cell lies a miniature universe.
Networks of proteins that fold with millimeter precision, organelles that process energy like living factories, and an architecture so complex that we are still trying to fully understand it. This image is a visual reconstruction of that hidden world, based on real data and developed to make it comprehensible.
It was created by Evan Ingersoll and Gaël McGill as an educational tool for the company Cell Signaling Technology, in a project that took years of work between 2009 and 2015. Its level of detail impacts not only because of the aesthetics but also due to the precision with which it translates invisible processes that sustain life.
A cell is much more than a set of microscopic parts. It is a work of natural engineering, and this representation finally allows us to peek inside with our eyes wide open. less
