Tether to End USDT Support on Five Blockchains by September 2025.
Tether has confirmed that it will discontinue USDt (USDT) operations on five blockchains starting September 1, 2025.Confirmed by a Wu Blockchain post on X, the affected networks include Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand.
This decision follows an internal assessment focused on blockchain usage, developer engagement, and infrastructure performance. Tether intends to reallocate resources to platforms that offer stronger scalability and active community participation.
Shift to Scalable and Active Networks
The company explained that the termination aligns with long-standing plans to streamline USDT operations. CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that removing support for less active networks would help focus on blockchains showing more development and community interaction. USDT issuance and redemptions have already stopped on some chains over the past two years.
For instance, minting ceased on Omni, Kusama, and Bitcoin Cash SLP in August 2023. By June 2024, the company will end new token issuance on EOS and Algorand. The final phase of this transition will involve freezing USDT tokens on these five blockchains and halting all redemptions.
