#USCryptoWeek Ethereum Foundation's roadmap targets the integration of zkEVM on the mainnet within a year

The Ethereum network is preparing for a major architectural upgrade that could see the integration of the Ethereum Virtual Machine based on zero-knowledge proofs (zkEVM) directly into the layer one blockchain within a year.

In a post by engineer Sofia Gold, a developer on the Ethereum Foundation (EF) protocol support team, the foundation outlined its plan to replace the traditional block execution mechanism with zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs).

Instead of requiring each validator to re-execute transaction blocks for verification, the system will shift to a mechanism that relies solely on the verification of ZK proofs, which are small cryptographic receipts that confirm the validity of transaction execution without the need for recalculation.
