#Hyperbridge "No one truly owns the technology to build a decentralized cross-chain bridge!" — HyperBridge co-founder Seun
Cross-chain bridges have been the biggest black hole in the crypto world.
From 2017 to 2022 alone, over 3 billion dollars were stolen due to bridge hacks.
Harmony, Nomad... and many more.
So can we create a truly secure, decentralized, and sustainable bridge? 🧵
1/ Most cross-chain bridges fail because they are treated as "applications" instead of "infrastructure!"
But bridging is essentially a heavy computation task,
more like graphics rendering, rather than simple asset transfer.
This requires real resource investment,
it also needs a brand new design paradigm.
2/ Currently, there are only two paths to achieving a decentralized bridge:
→ ZK (powerful, but not yet widely validated)
→ Or through @Polkadot — which provides a natively scalable core for executing high computation tasks.
3/ This is why @hyperbridge chose to build on Polkadot!
They saw these attacks,
they also saw that no one was addressing the problem from the fundamental logic,
so they decided to start from scratch.
Polkadot provided the foundation,
they built the rest.
4/ The final outcome?
A decentralized cross-chain bridge built as infrastructure
🔒 Inherently secure
🧱 Architecturally decentralized
🚀 Resilient to cyclical fluctuations, truly "long-termism"
This is not a stopgap,
but a brand new inter-chain computation layer design.
Perhaps in the future, cross-chain bridges will not be prominent
It will become the invisible infrastructure in the Web3 world,
but it will be everywhere!
