Deep Tide TechFlow News, on July 10, according to Dlnews, the cryptocurrency project World (formerly Worldcoin) founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has suspended its iris scanning operations in Germany. The company's website shows that the "Orbs" scanning sites in Germany will "return soon", while a spokesperson confirmed to DL News that the company is updating the scanning stations and plans to open a flagship store in Munich.
World is currently in a legal dispute with the Bavarian State Data Protection Authority. The agency ruled in December 2024 that World violated European GDPR regulations, requiring the deletion of the collected iris codes. World has appealed and adjusted its data processing methods, encrypting user iris data and distributing it across multiple servers.
