Legendary American rapper Snoop Dogg quickly sold out nearly 1 million NFTs on the Telegram platform in just 30 minutes on Wednesday, causing many to reconsider the view that the NFT industry is 'dying'.
'Minting on the blockchain and opening the secondary market will start in the next 21 days. It will be explosive,' Durov said on X.
The NFTs in the collection include images of vintage cars, swag bags, digital dogs, related items, and many other diverse symbols. These are 'Telegram Gifts' – animations that can be displayed on user profiles or exchanged for currency in the app called Stars.
Snoop Dogg releases a new song accompanying the NFT collection.
On the occasion of the collection launch, Snoop Dogg also released a new song titled 'Gifts' along with a music video showcasing the collectible items.
The online community and YouTube users have called the collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Telegram 'legendary', while many see the sell-out of the collection as a positive signal for the NFT market – which is currently experiencing a downturn in volume and sales.
Khối lượng giao dịch NFT trong quý 1/2025 đã giảm 61%, chỉ còn 1,5 tỷ USD so với 4,1 tỷ USD cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Trong 30 ngày qua, doanh số tiếp tục lao dốc 41% xuống còn khoảng 403 triệu USD, với số lượng giao dịch giảm hơn 55%.
Could Snoop Dogg's collection reignite the NFT wave?
A user on X with the nickname Zenith, who is currently the head of the NFT department at TON, said 'Telegram Gifts' is actually not a new concept – it appeared in January with the collection 'Plush Pepe'. However, the positive response to Snoop's collection could mark 'the beginning of a new NFT wave', although he also admitted 'technically speaking, this may not mean much'.
'The special feature of Telegram Gifts is the ability to display directly on user profiles – a feature that provides high personalization,' Zenith commented. 'I wouldn’t be surprised if in the future, major brands or Web3 IPs also want to release digital gifts in this way. The question is whether they will do it or not – I’m not sure, but it’s worth waiting for.'
Snoop Dogg is no stranger in the NFT space. He started participating in 2021 – when this sector first exploded.
In June 2023, he announced the 'Snoop Dogg Passport Series', an NFT collection that allows owners to access behind-the-scenes content such as exclusive videos and images. Previously, in February 2022, Snoop also collaborated with the metaverse The Sandbox to launch the collection 'The Doggies'.
