The Trump administration is increasing its pressure on Harvard University, warning that it may face the risk of losing its accreditation and formally taking action to summon the school for information regarding international students. The U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health have stated that they have notified the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) that, following the outbreak of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, there have been incidents of anti-Semitism during pro-Palestinian protests on Harvard's campus, which may violate federal anti-discrimination laws and fail to meet the commission's accreditation standards. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona stated, "Harvard University has allowed anti-Semitic harassment and discrimination to persist on its campus, failing to fulfill its obligations to students, educators, and American taxpayers." She added, "We expect NECHE to enforce its policies and keep the Department of Education fully informed of its efforts to ensure that Harvard complies with federal law and accreditation standards."
