The Polygon team $MATIC is set to release the Heimdall v2 update on July 10, 2025 — the largest hard fork since the launch of the network. According to the developers, it aims to eliminate the outdated architecture inherited since 2018. This will allow reducing the block finalization time to approximately five seconds.

Heimdall v2 is a completely redesigned consensus client based on Cosmos SDK v0.50.13 and CometBFT v0.38.17. It manages validators, block producer selection, and state synchronization between Polygon and $ETH . In addition to standard Cosmos modules, it utilizes custom ones: chainmanager, stake, bor, and others.

According to the team, the deployment of the update is expected to take about 30 minutes, provided there are no disruptions. Most validators have already transitioned to the new version, said Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, urging others to test the update in advance.
