According to government sources, Russia has begun actively promoting cross-border trade in bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. This move is prompted by sanctions and exclusion from SWIFT.
The Ministry of Finance of Russia and the Central Bank are working on formalizing cryptocurrency transactions in oil and arms trade.
Moscow has also approved pilot programs with China and Iran for cryptocurrency payment systems.
