#TrumpTariffs Trump's Advisors Meet Today After Announcement That the U.S. Will Resume Sending Weapons to Ukraine Members of President Donald Trump's national security team are scheduled to discuss on Tuesday the details of sending weapons, including Patriot missiles, to Ukraine, after Trump announced that he will resume sending defensive weapons to the country, according to a person familiar with the matter.
"We are going to send more weapons. We have to do it; they must be able to defend themselves," Trump said before a dinner with his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu. "They are being attacked very hard. We will have to send more weapons," Trump added. "Mainly defensive weapons, but they are being hit very, very hard."
The president's comment represents a change in direction after a senior White House official stated to X last week that the Trump administration had suspended some arms shipments to Ukraine, including air defense missiles. The decision came after a review of military spending and U.S. support for foreign countries, signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Discussions had already begun within the administration on how to send more Patriots to Ukraine following Trump's phone call on Friday with President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the source familiar with the matter. In the call, Zelensky asked for clarification on the arms suspension, which Trump downplayed. He indicated that he remained willing to help Ukraine defend itself.
