#TrumpTariffs
In a series of posts on the social media platform Truth Social, Mr. Trump shared screenshots of the letters notifying the tariffs of the United States on goods from each country sent to the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Laos, and Myanmar. By the end of that day, he had posted seven more tariff letters, sent to the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tunisia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Serbia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
According to the content of the letters, goods imported into the US from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Tunisia will be subject to a 25% tariff. Goods from South Africa and Bosnia will be taxed at 30%; goods from Indonesia will be taxed at 32%. The tariffs for Bangladesh and Serbia are 35%, while Cambodia and Thailand will be taxed at 36%. Laos and Myanmar will be taxed at 40%.
The letters signed by Mr. Trump also indicated that the US would "possibly" consider adjusting the new tariffs, "depending on our relationship with your country."
This is the first batch of tariff letters sent by the US before Wednesday (July 9) - the day on which, according to the original plan, higher corresponding tariff rates would be reimposed after a 90-day suspension.
