#TrumpTariffs In a series of posts on the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump shared screenshots of letters announcing US tariffs on goods from each country sent to the leaders of Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Laos and Myanmar. Later that day, he posted seven more tariff letters, sent to the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tunisia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Serbia, Cambodia and Thailand.
According to the content of the letters, goods entering the US from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Tunisia will be subject to a 25% tariff. Goods from South Africa and Bosnia will be taxed 30%; Indonesian goods will be taxed 32%. The tariff for Bangladesh and Serbia is 35%, while Cambodia and Thailand will be taxed 36%. Laos and Myanmar will be taxed 40%.
The letters signed by Mr. Trump also said that the US will “probably” consider adjusting the new tariff, “depending on our relationship with your country.”
This is the first batch of tariff letters sent by the US before Wednesday (July 9) - the date when, according to the original plan, the higher reciprocal tariff rates would be re-imposed after a 90-day suspension.
