The Internet is evolving.
You experienced Web1 (static pages), Web2 (social networks, apps)…
Here now is Web3 — a new version of the Internet, decentralized, freer, more controlled by the users themselves.
But… concretely, what does it mean?
We explain it to you 👇
🧩 1. What is Web3?
Web3 is an Internet built on blockchain.
Instead of data being controlled by Google, Meta, or Amazon, it is distributed across a decentralized network.
It’s a bit like passing:
of a building where everyone rents from the same owner (Web2),
to an eco-village where each residentowns their house and their data (Web3).
🔑 2. Digital identity: you are truly the owner
With Web3, you no longer use a “Facebook” or “Gmail” ID.
👉 You connect with your crypto wallet (like MetaMask), which becomes:
your digital identity
your access key to applications
your wallet to interact with the Web
💡 You can prove you are you, without giving your name, address, or credit card.
🏛️ 3. DAO: an organization without a boss
In Web2, a company has a CEO who makes decisions.
In Web3, you can create a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization), where decisions are voted on by the community using tokens.
➡️ This is the “government 3.0” version of a company.
Each member has a voice, according to their participation.
Example:
A DAO can manage a project, a fund, an artistic community… without classic hierarchy.
🧱 4. Decentralization: the heart of Web3
Web3 is based on a simple principle:
“Don’t trust a company. Trust the code.”
✅ Thanks to blockchain, the applications are:
transparent (the code is public)
secured (no single point of failure)
open (everyone can connect to it)
These are called dApps: decentralized applications.
💡 What Web3 changes for you
You own your data (and even your content)
You can earn money by participating (play to earn, contribute to earn…)
You are no longer the product, you are an actor on the platform
Web3 is still young, imperfect, and sometimes confusing…
But it raises an essential question:
What if we took back control of our Internet?
