The President of the United States intends to impose 25 percent tariffs on goods from South Korea and Japan starting August 1.
Trump announced this on the social network Truth Social, publishing letters to the prime ministers of these countries.
💬We must put an end to trade deficits caused by the tariff and non-tariff barriers of these countries <…> Therefore, we are imposing a 25 percent tariff on any incoming goods💬, the letters state.
Trump noted that the tariff will not apply to companies that produce goods directly in the territory of the United States. Additionally, in the event of corresponding measures by Tokyo or Seoul, Washington reserves the right to further increase the tariffs.
