On July 7, two Ethereum addresses were activated for the first time in nearly 10 years and transferred a total of 1140 ETH worth ~$2.9 million. This caught the attention of Whale Alert.
The wallets received 900 ETH and 240 ETH respectively through genesis transactions on the day the network launched, July 30, 2015.
At that time, the price of the coin was $0.31. Now, the cryptocurrency is trading at levels around $2550 — an all-time increase of 90,000%.
The historical maximum price of Ethereum was recorded in November 2021 at $4878.
In April, analysts from CryptoQuant noted the activation of 'sleeping' bitcoins. Over the first three months of the year, approximately 62,800 BTC that had been inactive for over seven years were moved.
In July, an unknown person transferred 80,000 BTC worth $8.6 billion from eight wallets that had been inactive for 14 years. The transactions sparked discussions in the community about the possible identity of the owner, the purpose of the operations, and even potential hacking.
It is worth noting that in December 2024, an address that participated in the Ethereum ICO made its first outgoing transaction in nine years with 631 ETH worth $2.1 million at that time.
