U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said the deadline of August 1 for imposing reciprocal tariffs "is not set in stone 100%", indicating that he is open to alternative proposals if trade partners request changes.

Trump told reporters in response to a question about whether the tariff deadline is final:

"I would like to say it's final, but not 100%. If they call and say they prefer to implement it differently, we would be open to that."
