TON Golden Visa Rumor Sparks Hype — Then Gets Denied
TON (The Open Network) announced on July 6 that staking $100,000 worth of TON for 3 years would grant investors a 10-year UAE Golden Visa, with a $35,000 processing fee.
The news spread quickly after Telegram CEO Pavel Durov reshared the post (without comment), causing TON’s price to jump from $2.7 to $3.
Many questioned the claim’s legitimacy, including former Binance CEO CZ, who asked why UAE authorities hadn’t confirmed it.
On July 7, UAE authorities, including VARA and the UAE SEC, officially denied the claim, stating Golden Visas are not granted for crypto holdings and that such visas require strict conditions, including investments of at least 2 million AED (~$544,000).
TON’s price dropped back to around $2.8 after the denial.
The incident sparked criticism, reminding crypto projects to avoid premature announcements without government confirmation.
