Former US President Trump’s war of words with former ally Musk continues to escalate. Trump criticized Musk's plan to establish a new political party as 'ridiculous' on Sunday, and posted on his own social media platform that the billionaire has completely 'lost his way.' Musk promptly retweeted related posts, mocking the low profile of Trump’s social media platform, and insisted that America needs the American Party he is establishing to counter the 'one-party system' of alternating Republican and Democratic rule.
On Sunday (July 6), in response to media inquiries about Musk announcing the establishment of the American Party on Saturday, Trump said: 'I think establishing a third party is ridiculous. The Republican Party has had great success, while the Democratic Party has lost its way, but America has always been a two-party system, and I believe establishing a third party would only add to the chaos.'
He stated that Musk might have a lot of fun establishing a new political party, but third parties have never worked in the United States.
Trump later posted on his social media platform Truth Social, attacking Musk. 'Seeing Musk completely 'derail' over the past five weeks, essentially in a situation akin to a train wreck, makes me very sad.'
Trump also said that nominating Musk's friend Jared Isaacman to head NASA was inappropriate. In May of this year, Trump suddenly announced he was withdrawing that nomination.
On Sunday, Trump confirmed previous media reports that he was unhappy with Isaacman’s past support for Democratic politicians. He also said that given Musk's business dealings with NASA, it was inappropriate to have Musk's close friend lead NASA.
