#TrumpTariffs
The term "#TrumpTariffs " refers to a series of import taxes imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his time in office (2017–2021). These tariffs were mainly part of his “America First” economic policy, aimed at protecting U.S. industries from foreign competition—especially from China.
The most notable #TrumpTariffs began in 2018 during a trade war with China. The U.S. placed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of Chinese goods, including electronics, steel, machinery, and consumer products. China responded with its own tariffs on American goods like soybeans and cars
Trump also imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from other countries, including allies like Canada and the EU, claiming national security concerns.
Supporters argued the tariffs helped U.S. manufacturers and reduced unfair trade practices. Critics said they raised costs for American businesses and consumers and hurt global trade.
