#MuskAmericaParty Elon Musk announced that he would create a new political party in the United States, just a few weeks after publicly falling out with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The technology mogul announced on his social media platform X that he had created a party called America Party, which is formed to "give you back your freedom," Musk wrote on Saturday.
Musk said the party would challenge the Republican and Democratic bipartisan system. It is unclear if the America Party has been formally registered with the electoral authorities, but Musk said it would be launched "next year."
The initiative comes after, on July 4, he asked his followers if he should create a political party.
"When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," Musk wrote on X.
After initially supporting Trump in his re-election campaign, both publicly on X and financially, Musk played a prominent role in the Government Efficiency Department ($DOGE ) of the U.S. government.
But in May, Musk announced that he would leave the government department, as it was the end of his "expected time" as a special government employee. Trump then praised him as "one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced."
However, on May 22, the relationship took a turn after the U.S. House of Representatives approved a major piece of legislation, a tax and spending reduction law, which was signed by Trump on Friday.
The document, called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act", aims to accelerate spending policy and includes hundreds of proposed amendments, from tax cuts to changes in social benefits, such as healthcare.
Musk dubbed the congressional bill "enormous, outrageous, and full of pork, a disgusting abomination."
Musk argued that the bill's spending would increase the "already gigantic budget deficit" and "burden American citizens with overwhelmingly unsustainable debt."
Earlier this week, Trump threatened to cut the federal subsidies worth billions of dollars that go to Musk's companies, and even hinted that he was considering deporting him.
