They launched the Bitcoin network in January 2009 by mining the genesis block. Nakamoto actively contributed to Bitcoin's development until late 2010, then gradually withdrew, handing over the project to others. Despite numerous theories and investigations, whether Satoshi Nakamoto is an individual or a group of people, and their whereabouts or current status, are still unknown. They are estimated to hold around one million untouched Bitcoins.
