🚨 🇺🇸🇳🇬 The FBI is pursuing a "Yahoo Boy" in Lagos for diverting the funds for the 2025 inauguration of American President Donald Trump!
A Nigerian cybercriminal based in Lagos managed to divert over 250,000 dollars (approximately 139 million FCFA) intended for Donald Trump's presidential inauguration ceremony in 2025, via a sophisticated email scam.
📍 Technique used:
The fraudster, identified as Ehiremen Aigbokhan, employed a technique known as "Business Email Compromise" (BEC). He created fake email addresses mimicking those of the Trump-Vance inauguration committee, subtly altering the domain name to deceive donors.
📍 He replaced a letter in the domain name to mislead donors (e.g., "@t47lnaugural.com" instead of "@t47inaugural.com").
📍 Amount diverted:
250,300 USDT.ETH (cryptocurrency pegged to the dollar), amounting to over 400 million naira, was transferred by the victim, believing they were supporting the event.
📍 Proceedings:
The funds were sent on December 26, 2024, and then quickly dispersed across several crypto wallets to obscure the trail. Thanks to the collaboration of platforms like Binance and Tether, part of the money was frozen.
📍 Ongoing investigation:
The FBI traced the funds back to Lagos and identified the main suspect. Over 40,000 USDT.ETH has already been recovered. The suspect is wanted for fraud and money laundering.
📍 Important to note:
The victim is not Trump himself, but a donor who wanted to support the inauguration.
🚨⚠️ Security tips
• Always verify the authenticity of email addresses and donation requests, especially for cryptocurrency transactions.
• Scams of this nature are becoming increasingly common during major events.
