Cambodia and U.S. Reach Agreement on “Reciprocal Tariffs”

July 5, 2025 – Phnom Penh

The Cambodian government announced on July 4 that it has reached a preliminary agreement with the United States regarding tariff negotiations. A joint statement on "reciprocal tariffs" is expected to be released soon, although specific details—such as tariff rates and product coverage—have not yet been disclosed.

The announcement followed an online consultation between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Sun Chanthol, and Sarah Ellerman, the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific. According to the Cambodian side, both parties reached full consensus on the draft of the joint statement.

The agreement is seen as a potential step forward in strengthening trade relations between the two countries, especially amid ongoing global trade uncertainties and efforts by nations to recalibrate their economic ties.
