#OneBigBeautifulBill Congress has passed its next major spending bill. This legislation, called 'One Big Beautiful Bill', will lower some taxes, change the funding of various federal programs, raise the debt ceiling, and alter many other parts of the federal government to align with the priorities of the Trump administration.
The bill was agreed upon using a process called reconciliation, which Congress can use to modify laws affecting the nation's budget. This process limits the time that the Senate can spend on debate to 20 hours, excluding the possibility of a filibuster. It also means that the bill can be passed by a simple majority of 51 votes in the Senate (or 50 plus the Vice President's vote), rather than the supermajority of 60 votes typically required to avoid a filibuster.
Healthcare: Medicaid and uninsured rates
The bill approved cuts to Medicaid, a healthcare program jointly managed by the states and the federal government, to help low-income individuals cover medical expenses.
