In early July 2025, two ancient Bitcoin addresses created back in 2011 became active: they moved a total of 20,000 BTC worth over $2 billion, transferring 10,000 BTC at a time, with minimal volatility. These coins were moved to 'new' addresses — so far without signs of being sold on exchanges.
This is the largest movement of old BTC in history — approximately 62,800 BTC aged over 7 years were already circulated in Q1 2025, which is 2× more than in Q1 2024.
Most of these coins have left exchanges — meaning they are being accumulated, not sold. This limits liquidity and may fuel growth.
