FTX, the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange, has filed a petition in a U.S. court to review the payment procedures for compensating clients in 49 countries, with a total claim amount of $800 million.

Of this amount, 82% ($656 million) is attributed to China.

The exchange will hire local lawyers to assess the feasibility of payments under local laws.

"In some countries, cryptocurrencies are banned, and this may hinder payments. But we are trying to reduce the list of countries and clarify the legal status."

The court hearing is scheduled for July 22.
