🌌 Celestia – Data Availability (DA) Layer Expanding Towards 1 GB Block & Lazybridging

(Data updated until 07/2025 and is only basic general information about the project to facilitate basic evaluation – Not investment advice)

1. 🧭 Overview & future of modular

- Celestia ($TIA ) separates consensus & execution, specializing only in data availability, helping rollups build lighter & faster blockchains; supports data availability sampling for lightweight nodes.

- Mainnet launched in October 2023 (“Lemon Mint”), a result of the LazyLedger project since 2019 – used by the Cosmos, Optimism & Polygon community to provide DA layer for rollups like Arbitrum Orbit and Base.

2. 🚀 Significant milestones 06/2024–07/2025

- Q3 2024 – Lemongrass: releases CIP-6/-9/-10/-14/-20 supporting Interchain Accounts, Packet Forward Middleware, turning off old Blobstream… upgrading the consensus layer.

- Q4 2024 – Shwap & Ginger: Shwap for 12× faster sampling, saving 16.5× capacity; Ginger reduces block time from 12→6s, throughput increases 2×.

- Q1 2025: Mainnet increases block to 8MB/6s (~1.33MB/s); devnet experiments reach 128MB/6s (~21MB/s) with test Mammoth & mamo-1; Riot roadmap aims for 1GB block in the future.

- Acceleration platform: Core v1.56 released on 1/7/25 with improved mempool and efficient tx processing; the integrated application platform like XO Market, Hibachi CLOB, Hibachi Wynn… shows the rich potential of the modular ecosystem.

3. 💰 Quarterly revenue

Celestia has not yet announced revenue towards a fee-driven model as the DA network derives its revenue from rollup publishing, where the rollup community pays fees for blob data. Instead, the tokenomics focuses on staking, governance, and supporting the dev ecosystem.

4. 🛠️ Dev activity & ecosystem

- More than 20 rollups are operational, total data blob >75 GB, with Eclipse standing out accounting for ~1 TB.

- Liquid staking is developing strongly: MilkyWay & Stride released milkTIA, TVL reached ~$11M & ~$6M by 2024.

- Planned upgrades like compact blocks, namespace programmable nodes, private DAS, node sharding, Lazybridging (for rollup cross-interaction) are being designed for deployment.

5. 🛣️ Roadmap & future direction (2025-2026)
- Aiming for 1 GB block – module Abundant/Verifiable/Frictionless blockspace.
- Launching Lazybridging: using ZK to help rollups communicate smoothly between networks, especially without needing multisig, unlocking cross-rollup.
- Optimize light-client level: efficient DAS, compact block, mempool, node sharding for node scalability.
- Build toolchain & support for permissionless rollup deployment – SDK, API like canonical blob API, namespace programmability, transaction UX, fee burning…

6. ✅ Opportunities & ⚠️ Challenges

✅ Modular design helps expand the blockchain logic for customizable rollups.

✅ Throughput increases significantly, block size test exceeds mainnet dozens of times.

✅ Clear DeFi & rollup adoption – 20+ ecosystems, riding the modular wave.

⚠️ No clear revenue fee yet and still in the exploration phase of the token revenue model.

⚠️ The DA race is still intense with EigenDA, Avail, Celestia must maintain a technical lead.

⚠️ The ability to implement Lazybridging & 1 GB blocks needs to excel in both technology and security.

7. 🧾 Summary

Celestia is realizing the vision of a modular blockchain: from advanced consensus/data layer to “infrastructure for rollup everything.” With a clear roadmap and impressive update speed (1.3MB/s mainnet, network testing up to 21MB/s, aiming for 1GB block), the modular ecosystem is entering an acceleration phase. Although revenue remains a question mark, the technical prospects and adoption are becoming a clear foundation.
