Leftist social movements held a protest at the Itaú BBA headquarters in São Paulo to advocate for taxing the super-rich and a "fair tax reform," which they say is "crucial to reduce inequality."

The action took place this Thursday (3/7) on Faria Lima Avenue, the center of the financial market in the São Paulo capital.

The protest was organized by the Povo Sem Medo front and the Movement of Homeless Workers of São Paulo (MTST-SP) and lasted about two hours.

The report wrote to Itaú BBA, the investment arm of Itaú bank, but did not receive a response by the time this report was published. Earlier, the institution had not commented when approached by the Metrópoles website.

"In Brazil, taxing the super-rich is crucial to reduce inequality. These are profits and dividends that remain untouched, while the majority works hard and pays dearly for everything," says a text from Povo Sem Medo published on social networks.

The MTST said that the occupation of Itaú's headquarters "is just the beginning". "It's time to turn the scales," they published on Instagram. They promised a new action in São Paulo on the next 10th.

Federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP), who was once a coordinator of the homeless movement, also celebrated the protest: "Onward!", published the ally of the Lula government on X. "The people's message is clear: Brazil needs tax justice."
