Ondo Finance and Pantera Capital Invest $250 Million in RWA

On July 4, 2025, #OndoFinance and Pantera Capital announced an investment of $250 million in digitized real asset projects (RWA) through the Ondo Catalyst initiative, focusing on protocols and infrastructure for tokenized finance on the blockchain. The investment, combining equity and tokens, aims to build a transparent financial ecosystem that operates 24/7, made more efficient by blockchain. According to Axios, the value of #RWA has increased from $5 billion (2022) to $24 billion (mid-2025), mainly from private credit and U.S. government bonds.

Ian De Bode, Ondo's Chief Strategy Officer, called this an “arms race” to integrate DeFi with real assets, emphasizing the need for a strong ecosystem for tokenization to become a superior choice. Ondo leads with OUSG, USDY (tokenized U.S. bonds, with a market cap of $1.4 billion) and is developing a layer-1 blockchain for RWA. Major players like Robinhood (layer-2 for EU stocks), Kraken, Bybit (trading tokenized stocks), Coinbase, BlackRock, and Franklin Templeton are also involved, but controversy erupted when Robinhood mimicked stocks of OpenAI, SpaceX without proper licensing. This deal reinforces the potential of tokenization, driving DeFi and blockchain in global finance.
