🚨 🇺🇸 Congress adopts Donald Trump's "trophy" budget
Renewal of massive tax cuts from 2017, crackdown on undocumented immigrants, cuts to social programs… The "Big Beautiful Act" implements Donald Trump's campaign promises and increases the national debt.
The defense budget will exceed one trillion next year, an increase of 157 billion. It will fund 25 billion for the launch of the "golden dome" missile defense project over the United States, as well as two other priorities: military contributions to the fight against immigration and the development of nuclear weapons. The budget for the Space Force, created by Donald Trump, will be boosted by 30%.
Raising the debt ceiling
The national debt went off the rails in January and stands at 36.2 trillion dollars. The United States risked being unable to borrow to pay its bills by the end of the summer. The legal debt ceiling has therefore been raised by 5 trillion to avoid sovereign default. The new maneuvering room will be valuable, as the Big Beautiful Bill could create between 3.1 trillion and 3.5 trillion in new primary deficits over ten years.
