PANews, July 3 news, according to Cointelegraph, the U.S. Department of Justice recently recovered $40,300 in cryptocurrency from a political fundraising scam, thanks to the assistance of stablecoin issuer Tether. The scammers impersonated officials from the Trump - Vance inauguration committee, emailing potential donors using a forged domain to trick them into transferring $250,300 worth of USDT stablecoin on December 24, 2024. Two days later, the victims transferred the funds into a crypto wallet controlled by the scammers, and the funds were swiftly transferred out. The FBI tracked and froze part of the funds through blockchain analysis. It is worth mentioning that this is the second time Tether has assisted law enforcement recently, having previously helped freeze $225 million in USDT related to a 'pig butchering' scam in June.
