Recent reports indicate that China has unveiled a new weapon, referred to as a "Blackout Bomb" or "Power Grid Disruptor," which is designed to cripple enemy power infrastructure.
This weapon, reportedly showcased in an animated video by China's state broadcaster CCTV, is described as a land-launched missile that ejects numerous cylinder-shaped submunitions. These submunitions then release graphite particles into the air, which can cause short circuits in high-voltage electrical equipment, leading to widespread power outages and blackouts.
Experts suggest this non-kinetic weapon could pose a significant threat to critical infrastructure, particularly in regions like Taiwan, amidst rising tensions. It aims to paralyze command and control centers by disrupting power substations and electricity grids.
It's important to note that China is also actively developing other advanced weapon systems, including high-power microwave (HPM) weapons that can disrupt electronic components, and continues to expand its nuclear arsenal and cyber capabilities, some of which are also capable of targeting critical infrastructure.
