Investor opens gold bar with 100 bitcoins after 13 years; and is robbed

In total, 138 bars of this series of 100 bitcoins from Casascius were created and only 37 of them have not been redeemed.

An anonymous investor, using the nickname John Galt, moved 100 bitcoins that had been sitting in his wallet for 13 years. The private key that granted access to these coins was in a Casascius gold bar.

According to reports, the wallet was purchased in 2012 for about $500 (around R$ 1,000 at the time's exchange rate). Today, these 100 bitcoins are valued at $10.6 million (R$ 57.9 million).

The sad part of this story is that the investor had some of his coins stolen. This is because he posted a picture showing the private key that also granted access to other Bitcoin clones, such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV).
